Week 1:

The previous week in engineering design lab we learned about the different types of bridges, certain geometries of bridges, and basic bridge design software. This past week was very basic and introductory material, so it was very easy to comprehend. We were also given the basic guidelines for the course, such as how the bridge will be tested and how we will need to be updating this blog. This project is in an introductory week phase so we haven't faced many major problems as far as bridge design and maximizing the bridge strength. Next week, we will begin researching different bridge structures.

It's hard to really tell what problems we will run into as a team, but from past experience the biggest problems were people not pulling their weight and conflicting ideas within the group. When group members do not do their work, it puts a bigger burden on other group members, which leads to sloppier and more inefficient work by other group members. Dealing the problem with group disagreements will be a lot harder to deal with because it's easy to just compromise ideas when there are conflicting ideas. I'm sure we will be able to get over the conflicts within the team, though, and have a successful project.
